How to Keep Your Hair Looking Good While Traveling (Good Luck to Us All)
I LOVE traveling. The airport fits, the cute little cafés, exploring a new city, trying new food. ALL of it.
You know what I don't love? Spending forever doing my hair just for the weather at my destination to HUMBLE me.
Example: When I arrived in Vietnam this summer... OH MY GOD. THE HORROR.
Let's just say the humidity was not nearly as welcoming as the very nice people there.
Especially when you have naturally wavy, frizzy hair. (Hello, it's me.)
My videos and selfies did NOT look like what I had in mind, okay? Pinterest board RUINED.
So whether you're packing for a weekend getaway, a beach vacation, or a long-haul flight, here are a few ways to make your hair routine a little less dramatic.
1. Check the weather BEFORE you pack
I know, I know. You're probably checking out the cute restaurants, planning your outfits, and figuring out where you're going to take pictures.
But check the humidity, too. PLEASE.
The hairstyle that works perfectly at home might not survive five minutes somewhere hot and humid.
If you're heading somewhere tropical, consider packing a lightweight anti-frizz product, a few clips, and having a couple of hairstyles in mind that actually work with your natural texture.
2. Stop packing your entire bathroom
Are you going on vacation or moving out?
Because why are we packing three brushes, a blow dryer, two straighteners, and every hair product we've ever owned?
(Just in case, right?)
Not judging. I've been there.
But seriously, try narrowing it down to what you'll ACTUALLY use.
A travel-sized shampoo and conditioner, heat protectant, a reliable brush, and a few hair accessories can cover a lot of your needs.
Add the styling tools you genuinely use. Not the ones you think you'll suddenly start using on vacation.
Because if you haven't touched that curling iron in six months, why are we giving it a trip to Italy?
3. Have a hairstyle that survives the airport
Between rushing through security, sitting on a plane for hours, and possibly falling asleep in the most uncomfortable position imaginable, your hair is going through A LOT.
A loose braid, low bun, or comfortable ponytail can help keep everything manageable.
A claw clip works, too, but you might want to take it out before settling into your seat.
Because sitting on a plane for hours with a giant claw clip digging into the back of your head?
Absolutely not.
And if you have bangs, consider clipping them back during the flight. Between the dry cabin air, sleeping, and constantly adjusting them, they might not look quite as cute when you land.
We'll deal with that in a minute.
4. Give your hair a little attention after you land
You've landed. You've collected your luggage. You're ready to explore.
Except your hair looks NOTHING like it did when you left home.
Before you rush into completely restyling it, take a look at what actually needs fixing.
Sometimes it's just your bangs, your face-framing pieces, or those annoying little flyaways around your hairline.
You don't necessarily need to redo your entire head of hair just because a few sections decided to act up. This is where a mini styling tool can be a lifesaver.
Our BAD HAIR Quick Fix Comb is designed for smaller touch-ups, so you can smooth out those little problem areas without bringing out a full-size straightener.
It's compact, cordless, and easy to keep in your bag.
Just make sure your hair is completely dry before using heat, and always let the tool cool down before storing it. And don't forget to check the plug types and voltage at your destination!
Did I mention how convenient cordless tools can be when there's no outlet nearby? Because hunting for a bathroom outlet while you're trying to get ready is NOT my idea of sightseeing.
(You'll still need to charge them, of course. We're not performing miracles over here.)
OK, NEXT...
5. Embrace a few no-heat hairstyles
Listen. You're on VACATION.
You do not need to spend an hour fixing your hair every morning when there's an entire city waiting for you.
Some days, a sleek bun is the answer. Other days, a braid, a cute scarf, or your natural waves will do just fine.
And if you're somewhere hot and humid, sometimes working with your natural texture is a whole lot easier than fighting it.
Trust me, I learned this the hard way.
Now, does that mean I'm giving up on my smooth hair days? Absolutely NOT.
It just means knowing when to pick your battles.
And if your hair decides to cooperate?
GREAT. Take 47 pictures immediately.
We don't know when this opportunity will come around again.
6. Don't let your hair ruin your plans
I love a good hair day just as much as anyone else.
But I'm not missing breakfast, a beach sunset, or a dinner reservation because my bangs won't sit right.
Absolutely not. We paid for this trip!
Pack what you need, have a couple of easy hairstyles ready, and make small adjustments when necessary.
And if your hair gets a little frizzy in the process? That's okay, too.
Your vacation memories deserve more attention than your flyaways.
Now go enjoy your trip. Your hair can come too, even if it has an attitude.
And if your bangs need a little travel buddy, meet our BAD HAIR Quick Fix Comb.
Because apparently, even our hair needs a carry-on bestie. 💗
